The night Plum Wild Parker Walters turned twelve, lightning lit up the crawfish boil, and the pines swayed like they knew a secret. That’s when Elvis appeared—barefoot Tupelo Elvis, bluesy and glowing.
“Are you for real?” Parker asked, clutching his cheese grits.
Elvis smiled. “Real enough. I’m here to give you somethin’ special.”
He reached out, tapped Parker’s head, and boom—a mullet bloomed. Glorious. Flowing. Otherworldly.
Parker blinked and ran his hand through his new flowing locks. “Why a mullet? Why me?”
Elvis shrugged. “Every generation gets one. A kid too wild to tame, too good to waste. The mullet’s not just hair—it’s a birthright. A signal to the weird, the bold, the chosen.”
“And the business in the front?”
“Elvis left the building, son. Somebody’s gotta run it now.”
He winked, fading into mist as the pines clapped and the radio played “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
Parker stood taller, mullet glistening with bayou light. He still didn’t get it, but he felt it. And that was enough.
