Well, it all started because I (mom) couldn’t bring myself to cut off all his curls. When we took him in for his second haircut, his dad joked, ‘If we just trim the top, he’d have a mullet.’ So we went with it—mainly for fun, thinking it’d be perfect for the mullet contest at our local watermelon festival.

To our surprise, he took first place! After that, his dad refused to let us cut it—and it’s been growing ever since.
